The night belonged to Joe Biden.
Last night, Joe Biden took the stage, and so many of us who have watched him all these years—so many years, more than fifty— wept as we sat in front of our TVs and computer screens.
He was floor manager for Jimmy Carter, for God’s sake. He chaired the Anita Hill hearings (I have sort of forgiven him), ran for President three times, served eight years as Vice President for Obama, and can be seen in countless pictures helping Obama smile in the sea of challenges he faced. He was there for his children. His daughter’s intro was one for the ages. He has supported those who didn’t return the favor, he has turned the other cheek, and he made phone calls bringing members of the House to the other side of many an issue. So many policies have his initials on them.
And his work over the last four years? Flawless. The economy. COVID management. Reinstating foreign policy and trust with our allies. Support of the armed services. Student debt. Need I go on? Flawless.
He is a true Catholic, our president Joe Biden, whose faith has guided him through tragedies that most of us never have to experience. He has walked the religious line between the law and his God’s law as well as anyone in the history of politics. He has given up a lot for his country and for each of us. He is a man of compromise.
He seeks to understand rather than be understood.
And last night, he was strong, and defiant almost, as he defended his legacy and his right to be there. He also seemed tired. I’m glad he walked from the enormous responsibility of trying to silence a man who doesn’t deserve to be on the same stage with him. Let the prosecutor take over now. And no defiance needed, Joe. Just pride in all you have done in your career. We see you. I promise, those who wish to look, see you.
He has been a President who allowed us to believe that he wasn’t selling us out with every phone call we were not privy to hear. That he has the best interest of our country—everyone in it, and those with whom he doesn’t agree.
We trust Joe Biden, and for good reason.
If you didn’t see his speech, watch it here. It’s the least we can do. To hear him out. The first ten minutes is cheering. How many of us will hear that from so many for our accomplishments?
He ended with, “I promise I will be the best volunteer Kamala and Tim have ever seen.” He will be the best volunteer? Isn’t it time for all of us to be the best volunteers? It’s it time for ‘we the people’ to stand up and do the work?
“America, America, I gave my best to you.” - Joe Biden
Thank you for your service, Joe. Today is a day to thank you for your service. Perhaps we can all send someone a text with one thing he has done that touched us, and thank him for his lifelong service. Or post it. #ThankYouJoe
Thanks for the great acknowledgement of a great human, who also lead America out of the darkest time of most Americans' lifetimes. Gratitude to America's great patriot, President Joseph Biden!
This is a beautiful tribute to a man who loved God, Country, and Family with heart and devotion. Thank you, Joe.
