Sunday Wrap Up: August 11, 2024
Our week in review. No special calls to action. Enjoy the rest of your weekend…
Walz, Coach, Governor, Hunter, Teacher
He’s here. Kamala’s choice for Vice President. Member of We the People, Sabrina Korber, was a student and mentee of his wife in Alliance, Nebraska, where Gwen and Tim met, married and taught. Listen to her enthusiasm, shared she says by her fellow Nebraskans. Could Nebraska (5 Electoral votes), go Blue? Wouldn’t that be something. Know anyone in the corn belt of the country? Share the podcast with them, and take a minute to listen to her articulate pitch for hope for the future. It’s filled with Joy.
Arizona
Days ago, Arizona was looking like it could go to MAGA candidate, DT. A number of polls are now putting the Harris Walz ticket in the lead. Remember, if this election cycle has shown us anything, it’s that it can change on a dime. Or rather, a day. We must pay attention and not be complacent.
The Harris Walz team went to Arizona for a full house rally (20,000 in attendance, and more than 40,000 watched it live on YouTube), but something perhaps more important happened at that gathering. John Giles, the Republican mayor of Mesa Arizona, introduced the Democrat’s ticket. Other Republicans are starting to stand up as well. Listen to his short call for #CountryOverParty. We didn’t see this in 2020. I think we can hope to see more of it moving forward. Know anyone in Arizona? Florida? Ohio? You might want to share his message.
Curating Your News
We wrote a piece and put forth a podcast around the idea of curating your own news feed. Read the piece around the pitch to walk away from things like MSNBC and CNN, and create your own journalists to follow, where your subscription goes to the journalist, not the shareholders and management of the parent company, like the main networks.
We asked for suggestions of additional columnists to consider and here are two you forwarded:
David Pell, Next Draft: “I pluck the most fascinating news items of the day and then create a modern-day column which I deliver with a fast, pithy wit that will make your computer device vibrate with delight.”
Want to understand JD Vance better? In this short interview, you will understand where he came from and where he is headed. The New York Times runs a daily podcast, The Daily, usually fifteen or twenty minutes each day where a NYTimes journalist interviews someone or other about breaking news and issues. On Monday, August 5th, the podcast She Used to be Friends with JD Vance, is an interview with Sophia Nelson, a classmate of Vance, who recently published correspondence with him that went on for years. Her interview gives true insight into JD and where he came from and perhaps the reason (greed and power) that he walked from his true beliefs.
And, lastly, thank you. Thanks to your sharing our posts, we are growing with every single forward and mention on individual’s social media. 2 million subscribers by the election? Who knows? It could happen. We will keep you posted.
